Trying to make sense of life
And the death that surely follows
Will I ever make my mark?
A lasting impression on those around me

It scares me to think I'll wither away
Decay l like all the flowers

Hold fast
The flames buried deep in our hearts
They yearn for something greater than they've given us
We bend and break
Starve ourselves sick of happiness

With trembling hands
I struggle to write these words down
Knowing my light will expire

Let this dying light be my guide
To traverse the darkness in my life

I can't give in to fear
Of not knowing what lies ahead
But self-doubt is a feeling I know all too well

Running on borrowed time
We rush to make our mark
Searching for acceptance and self-worth

I'll graciously accept this is a race I'll never win
Just take me as I am
We bend and break
Starve ourselves sick of happiness
Waiting on a purpose to guide our light

Knowing the weight of our worth, and what we'll amount to
I won't let these ideals hold weight over me and my life
So I embrace this dying light

Hold true to the flames that I forged
Never looking back on the fields on yesterday
I'll take this one step at a time
Because I know there's more to life than letting happiness die

Let this dying light be my guide to traverse the darkness in my life

I sat and stared out the window for far too long
Watching happiness drift through the cracks in the glass
Waiting on that fleeting wind to move me in the right direction
I realize the only cure for this pain lies within my self I need to pick myself up and fight back against the self-doubt and insecurities that have weighed over me for all these years

Nothing will get better until I pick myself back up
To see life in a different light
I know I'll make it out alright, still alive
